Kleinschmidt (Cedar Mountain HS), Halek (Providence Academy HS) earn MIAC honors

The MIAC announced their players of the week form last weekend, which include two players form Minnesota.

Caden Kleinschmidt had a career day for the Gusties, hauling in seven catches for 228 yards and three touchdowns in a 36-7 win at Macalester on 10/19. His total receiving yards are the fourth-most in a game in program history, tying Rich Ryan’s 228 yards against Washington University in 1976. All three of Kleinschmidt’s touchdowns came in the first half, and each went for 40 yards or more.

Maple Grove, Minn. | Providence Academy

Jacob Halek recorded nine tackles (eight solo), one interception, and one fumble recovery as the Oles remained unbeaten with a 36-33 win over St. Scholastica on 10/19. The fifth-year senior recovered a fumble in the first quarter, picked off a pass in the second quarter, and posted the second-highest tackle total of his career in the victory.

Eric Cockhill returned the opening kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown in the Cobbers’ win at Hamline on 10/19. The kick return for a touchdown is the first in the MIAC this season. Cockhill also returned six punts on the day, averaging 13.7 yards per return to help swing the average start of possessions in the Cobbers’ favor.
