Hills-Beaver Creek outlasts Mountain Iron-Buhl to reach 9-Player Prep Bowl

Hills-Beaver Creek is going to the Prep Bowl.

The Patriots defeated unbeaten Mountain Iron-Buhl 26-20 Thursday to catapult a program that has been on the cusp of a Prep Bowl run, but hasn’t been able to get over the hurdle and into the final game.

A 1-yard touchdown run by Jamin Metzger proved to be the game winner as the Patriots held on against the Rangers for the win.

The Patriots actually started off the scoring with a safety in the first quarter for a 2-0 lead. Mountain Iron-Buhl, however, answered with a 65-yard touchdown pass form Micaden Clines to T.J. Duchamp and a two-point conversion for an 8-2 lead.

But the Patriots answered with a pair of scores int he second quarter, both by Metzger. He ran in form a yard out and then scored on a 16-yard pass from Beau Bakken for an 18-8 lead.

In the third quarter Clines scored for the Rangers to make it a 18-12 game and it stayed that way until midway through the fourth quarter when Metzger scored his third TD of the game. A late score by the Rangers’ Derik Dahl wasn’t enough as the Patriots (12-0) earned a berth to next weekend where they will take on Fertile-Beltrami for the 9-Player title.
