to remain unbeaten in 6A
There were 72 undefeated teams in high school football heading into Week 4. Now, at midseason, that number is down to 58.
In one of the bigger match ups of the weekend, unbeaten Eden Prairie took on fellow undefeated rival Shakopee in Eden Prairie. What started as a back-and-forth battle early ended with the Eagles on top 42-28.
A 9-yard TD run by senior running back Liam Berndt broke a 14-14 tie with 31 seconds left in the first half. The Eagles carried the momentum into the second half where they scored the first two touchdowns to pull away from Shakopee.
Senior quarterback David Ivey scampered in from 26 yards out and then junior back Jeremy Fredericks scored on a 3-yard touchdown for a 35-21 lead. That was more than enough as a late Shakopee touchdown by Ben Holte was too little too late.
Shakopee was able to gain 376 yards on the ground, but the Eagles offense proved to be too much.
With the win, the Eagles are one of just three 6A teams still unbeaten, joining Minnetonka and Lakeville South.
